Kerastase Bain Fluidealiste Shampoo Discipline Sulfate Free Shampoo is an extremely thick, concentrated, high foaming product. It cleans well and deposits silicone on the hair to help reduce frizz. The fragrance is a rather potent musky floral scent that lingers all day. While the fragrance is nice it is a bit dated and too strong for me.

This shampoo did a really good job of reducing frizz and conditioning my hair, but because of the high silicone content, even after rinsing, it felt like there was product residue. Kerastase maintains that properly formulated products do not cause silicone build up on the hair. I don't think it left a lot of build up on my hair but I could feel that there was some residue. I prefer silicone free products but this shampoo did an amazing job at smoothing my hair, adding shine, and making it easier to style. It was easy to wet comb after using the shampoo, so much so that no conditioner or detangler was required on my fine, dry, color treated hair.

Skin Care Junky
- Skin Care Junky -http://www.blogger.com/profile/00173034113215906428noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2000159925888368408.post-15112210123084102292018-03-01T00:00:00.000-05:002018-03-01T03:29:24.165-05:00Going Sulfate Free

Sulfate free shampoos have been around for a while but it seems that within the last few years more and more companies are offering sulfate free products as the consumer wants what many consider to be better, more gentle, cleansing.

Many people think that sulfates are more drying and damaging to the hair because it strips it of protective oils and roughens the hair cuticle which can result in breakage and frizz. Using sulfate free shampoo (and a daily, silicone free conditioner and weekly, silicone free masque) has made a big difference in the condition of my hair. It is softer, smoother and hair color lasts longer.

Going sulfate free is easy to do but in order to get the best results there are a few things that need to be considered:

Sulfate free shampoos will not remove silicone build up from the hair. It's best to clarify the hair before going sulfate free in order to remove any build up. It's also best to avoid products that contain any silicone as it can build up on the hair which will make sulfate free shampoos less effective. Mastey de Paris Use Me First Purifying Sulfate Free Shampoo is my favorite hair clarifier because it is gentle but it works well to remove build up.

Sulfate free shampoos do not produce the same lather as traditional shampoo. Some have no lather at all but that doesn't mean they are not thoroughly cleaning the hair and scalp.

Some people feel their hair is rough or dry when first going sulfate free. Using a silicone free conditioner is helpful with detangling and smoothing the hair.

Introduced in 1978, Mastey de Paris Traite Shampoo was the first sulfate free shampoo. Sold in salons, it is still a go to product for those wanting a gentle cleanser. Mastey de Paris also offers formulas for Volume and Repair. DermOrganic Daily Conditioning Shampoo with Argan Oil, owned by Mastey de Paris, builds on the classic Mastey formula but adds to it with the addition of Argan Oil. DermOrganic comes in three formulas, Hydration, Color Care and Curly. All Mastey de Paris and DermOrganic products are sulfate free and with the exception of their styling products, are also silicone free. Mastey de Paris and DermOrganic are some of, if not, the best products available. However, their customer service leaves you wanting and finding their products is difficult. Still, they are the products I use because they work the best for me, are reasonably priced and lightly scented.

L'Oréal EverPure Shampoo is a line of sulfate free shampoos with a variety of formulas for different hair types, however most L'Oréal products also contain silicones and the products are strongly scented. Kerastase Aura Botanica Bain Micellaire Shampoo, the luxury brand owned by L'Oréal, is sulfate free and silicone free, but they are quite expensive. Pureology is another L'Oréal brand that is sulfate free but the products contain silicones and they are strongly scented.

Many people prefer sulfate free products because they find them more gentle to their hair and scalp. Most sulfate free products, especially salon brands, are more expensive, but they are worth it to those who find the benefits helpful.

While never really a groundbreaking product as far as formulations go, it has been a must have for a lot of people for a long time. Sometimes a basic moisturizer is better for reactive skin types that only require soothing hydration.

Joining the Dramatically Different Moisturizer Lotion and the Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel line up is the new Dramatically Different Moisturizing Cream

Fragrance free and allergy tested, this new crème is meant for the driest skin types that require a more dense moisturizer. This thick, yellow crème, is very hydrating but might feel too heavy for oily or more normal skin types. While the product has no added perfume, like all Clinique products, there is a slight scent. For having such a rich texture, this crème seems to absorb pretty well and leaves the skin dewy.

Packed in a clear jar with silver screw on top, Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizer Crème is available at the Clinique Counter and Clinique online.
New to the Estee Lauder product line is Perfectionist Pro Rapid Firm + Lift Treatment with Acetyl Hexapeptide-8. A serum that is said to help boost collagen production and reinforce the skin's framework to give the appearance of more refined facial contours.

This serum seems to have replaced the now discontinued Estee Lauder New Dimension Shape + Fill Expert Serum. The entire New Dimension line appears to have been discontinued.

The new Perfectionist Pro serum is a lightweight, creamy serum. Unlike Estee Lauder Perfectionist CP+R, it is easily applied and easily absorbed. It has a light fragrance which isn't quite as strong as either Perfectionist CP+R or New Dimension which are quite strongly fragranced. Fragrance is not skin care and added fragrance can cause skin irritation and sensitivity.

Perfectionist Pro is supposed to help with Firming/Lifting, Lines/Wrinkles, Radiance, Uneven Texture/Skin Tone and Pores. It contains Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, which, although found in a variety of other Estee Lauder products, is being advertised specifically as an important component of this new serum. It might be that it contains a higher level of this peptide, also knows as Argireline, than other Estee Lauder products. In addition, this serum contains light reflecting particles, such as Mica, to give the skin a faux glow.

More importantly, Perfectionist Pro contains AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) which means ALWAYS USE SUNSCREEEN and LIMIT SUN EXPOSURE while using this product and for at least a week after as it can cause skin sensitivity. Always read and follow labeling instructions on any products that contain acids like AHA or BHA.

I prefer the texture, absorption, and fragrance of Perfectionist Pro to Perfectionist CP+R which "balls up" on my skin. However, because Perfectionist Pro contains AHA, it makes it a little less practical to use because of the sun sensitivity issues.

Available at most Estee Lauder counters and the Estee Lauder website, Perfectionist Pro is available in a 1 ounce bottle for $75 and a 1.7 ounce bottle for $108.<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; display: inline; float: none; font-family: "times new roman"; font-size: 16px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; text-align: left; text-decoration: none; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;">

Estee Lauder's new Revitalizing Supreme + Global Anti-Aging Cell Power Crème replaces the previous version of this product with the addition of some new ingredients.

This dense gel-cream has a slightly pink color and comes in an attractive jar with a screw on gold lid.

As with the previous version of this product the scent is extremely strong and lasting. The scent is way too strong for a facial product and it seems ridiculous that companies still insist on scenting their products.

Revitalizing Supreme + Global Anti-Aging Cell Power Crème doesn't really absorb or dry. It feels heavy on my skin and sticky, even hours after application. Between that and the fragrance I was quick to wash it off.

Estee Lauder has been studying Moringa Extract and the various potential benefits it has for the skin and has included it in this revamped version.

While the texture of this cream isn't bad, it just doesn't spread well or feel like it is doing anything more than sit on top of the skin. It has numerous ingredients thought to improve skin but the scent prevents me from being able to use it and I am not keen on products that feel mask like. If companies want to continue over scenting their skin care products they should at least offer an unscented version for those of us who are sensitive to strong fragrances so we too can enjoy these wonderful products.

A 1 ounce jar retails for $52 and a 1.7 ounce jar for $78 at Estee Lauder counters and website.

These ampoules might remind people of the famous Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Ampoules which have been popular for so long. Ampoules are a way to keep ingredients fresh and reduce the levels of preservatives needed.

While this new product is nice, it is a bit oily and while unscented, it smells a bit like cooking oil. I also didn't feel like one ampoule was quite enough, they are a bit on the small side. They are designed to be applied over Advanced Night Repair to help calm and soothe stressed, reactive skin. Used together Lauder says it improves the skin barrier function after two weeks.

I like that the product is silicone free and felt soothing, but did find it rather oily and I didn't feel that it absorbed very well. It seems to be more about providing a protective barrier rather than absorbing completely. As a huge fan of their Advanced Night Repair I wasn't as enthusiastic about the ampoules. This product seems to be a replacement for their former Advanced Night Repair Concentrate which they discontinued years ago.

This product comes packaged in an elegant jar with a gold lid and it looks expensive. A jar of 60 ampoules retails for $110 at Estee Lauder counters and website.

The dual chamber, red plastic container contains a lifting gel in one chamber and a moisturizing wrinkle cream in the other. The product is kept separate until it is dispensed. The cream is typical of other L'Oréal moisturizers in that it is white and creamy, while the gel is red and more serum like in texture. While the product is noticeably scented, it is lighter than most L'Oréal products and very similar to L'Oréal owned Lancôme Renergie. The packaging is attractive but feels inexpensive.

Once applied to the face this cream gel mixture spreads easily and absorbs quickly. It doesn't appear to ball up like so many other L'Oréal creams and serums do. I did feel a tightening of my skin after application and felt that my skin was moisturized. Alcohol is listed quite highly on the ingredients deck and therefore it might be too drying for some. I prefer to avoid products with alcohol because it does seem to make my skin drier.
This highly scented facial crème feels quite dense and heavy on the skin. It feels more like a facial mask on me as it doesn't seem to absorb. This silicone based crème instead sort of sits on the surface. While strongly scented at least it is a more pleasing scent than some.

As with most Estee Lauder products, this crème is formulated with highly regarded ingredients and is designed to help with numerous problems such as wrinkles, tone, and firmness. It makes my face feel smooth and the texture feels luxurious. A lighter, lotion, version with sunscreen would be nice.

Sold in 1 ounce and 1.7 ounce jars with screw on gold lids, this crème retails for $50.00 and $75 at Estee Lauder counters and website.
This extremely emollient cream is lightly scented, similar to cold cream, with a rich, buttery texture.

This thick cream doesn't really absorb but rather coat the skin and is best for very dry skin types not prone to breakouts. The scent is light but noticeable. Why companies continue to scent their facial skin products is interesting since fragrance can sometimes be the cause of irritation. Companies seem to think they must perfume their products to make them seem more luxurious but that can keep people from being able to use them. This product is more of a barrier cream much like the company's Eight Hour Cream. It provides moisture by protecting the skin's moisture from evaporation which can be helpful to people with extremely dry, irritated skin. However, for those with acne prone skin it might cause breakouts which is what it did on my skin after one use.
Estee Lauder has always been a company of innovations. Swiss Performing Extract was one of those innovations, and despite it having been around for decades, it still is in some ways. Although it doesn't contain some of the newest buzzword ingredients it contains other ingredients that are just recently becoming more mainstream.

Estee Lauder Swiss Performing Extract is a light, serum like, white liquid, lotion that has a slightly herbal scent. The texture of this lotions is extremely light and absorbs quickly. The scent is also light and not overly perfumed like so many other Lauder products. It contains Grape Seed Oil which has become a mainstream ingredient for products such as skin and hair care.

It absorbs quite quickly and leaves my face feeling moisturized but not greasy. The scent fades after application which is good for those averse to wearing perfume on their face. The scent is also gender friendly since it is not floral. It does not contain sunscreen so that makes it more of a night time use product.

The white milk glass bottle with gold screw on top contains 3.3 ounces of lotion and retails for $58.00 at Estee Lauder counters and the Estee Lauder website.

Ingredients:
The scent is very similar to Estee Lauder Resilience products which I really enjoy. It cleanses my skin really well and seems to do a good job at removing blackheads on my nose. It can be a little bit drying but not uncomfortably so. It is my favorite cleanser because it seems to do a better job at removing impurities than some of the others I have tried but it doesn't strip my skin or make it feel dry and tight.
The texture of this masque is thick and spreads easily over hair. The scent, like the DermOrganic Conditioning Shampoo is fresh and clean. So, are the department store products that can cost upwards of $1,000 better or is it all just advertising hype?

The question isn't so simple for a couple of reasons. Some of the lower priced products may work better for some people because many times they are more simple products, products like the original Olay which is an emollient cream adored by many but does not include the latest buzz word anti aging ingredients.

On the other hand are the La Mer or Re Nutriv products by Estee Lauder. These products contain the latest peptides and ingredients thought to prevent or repair skin. For many people these high end, very expensive products are all they will use. They like the scent, the texture, the results. But do they moisturize skin any better than the lower priced products?

Packaging and fragrance can add substantially to the price of a product. So too can the research and development for new products. Each person is different and a lot of it depends on a person's personal preference. The higher end products tend to have a more luxurious texture and scent and frequently have the newest ingredients. Whether these new ingredients work is a whole other topic.

I am a fan of Estee Lauder advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II which costs $62 for a one ounce bottle. I like the texture, the lack of scent, and the way it makes my skin feel. I also use Mastey de Paris Moiste Facial Moisturizer which sells for $28 for a 3.3 ounce tube. The Estee Lauder product has some of the latest ingredients and is quite expensive whereas the Mastey de Paris product is a more simple formula. As far as moisturizers go it is my favorite because it doesn't cause breakouts and doesn't contain the silicones and other fillers that irritate my sensitive skin.

So, it is really all about personal preference. What sort of products do you prefer?
Skin Care Junky
- Skin Care Junky -http://www.blogger.com/profile/00173034113215906428noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2000159925888368408.post-79701740104906741322013-01-01T00:00:00.000-05:002013-03-22T22:46:45.924-04:00Creme de La Mer The Moisturizing Soft CreamCreme de La Mer is one of those products that some people really like while other find the original to be too heavy and greasy. While I like the idea of this product it just doesn't work on my skin type, it is too heavy and greasy, I like products that absorb and don't just sit on my skin. The La Mer Gel Cream is a wonderful product and while it absorbs really well, it doesn't give my skin enough moisture. The new Creme de La Mer The Moisturizing Soft Cream is a wonderful product because it moisturizes really well but also absorbs and leaves my face soft and hydrated.

This new cream is more lotion like in its consistency but it spreads easily, absorbs well, and doesn't make my face feel greasy. It has that familiar Creme de La Mer scent which I find light, fresh, and pleasant.

A one ounce jar of Creme de La Mer The Moisturizing Soft Cream is available for $150. from Creme de La Mer website and Creme de La Mer counters.
L'Oreal recently introduced their new Advanced Haircare line of products. This new product line consist of shampoos, conditioners, and other products for different types of hair. The shampoos are not sulfate free and contain silicone, the conditioners also contain silicone. The fragrances are quite strong and do not smell quite as luxurious as the L'Oreal Vive Pro products.

These products are available at a variety of stores and retail for under $10.
Skin Care Junky
- Skin Care Junky -http://www.blogger.com/profile/00173034113215906428noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2000159925888368408.post-73528428645907486202012-11-01T00:00:00.001-04:002013-03-22T21:47:19.905-04:00Lancome Absolue L'ExtraitLancome Absolue L'Extrait is a new facial cream by L'Oreal owned Lancome. Infused with rose stem cells, Lancome claims this new cream helps facial firmness and radiance.

This cream is extremely thick and has a petroleum jelly consistency. The rose fragrance of this product is quite potent but pleasant. However, the cream did not absorb on my slightly oily skin, it just sort of sat there. It did feel a bit heavy on my skin and it was rather oily and greasy. Using less did not help it absorb any better. This product seems to be meant for those skin types needing much more moisture.

A 1.7 ounce jar is available for $350. from the Lancome website and Lancome counters at department stores.
However, one of my favorites is Lancome Creme Radiance Cream to Foam Cleanser.

This dense, rich, creamy cleanser requires one use only a tiny amount to produces a rich, thick, luxurious lather that smells wonderful, and cleans extremely well without stripping. The scent is somewhat aquatic and fresh, the lather feels so rich and soothing on my slightly oily skin. It is one of those products that I enjoy using because it feels like I am doing something special for my skin.
Available in a 4.2 ounce tube for $25 or a 6.7 ounce tube for $35 from the Lancome website or Lancome counters at department stores.
The concept about products from both companies is to use more natural ingredients in their products. DermOrganic use Argan in their hair and skin care products.

DermOrganic Facial Moisturizer is a thick, white
lotion. The scent is somewhat citrus but has no added fragrance which is
good for those of us who are sensitive to the overly scented facial
products.

I like the idea of this moisturizer as it absorbs easily and the scent is very light and pleasant. The ingredients list is also pretty impressive. However, when using this product I get break outs on my face. This product also does not contain any sunscreen. This lotion leaves the skin feeling soft and hydrated without being oily or greasy,

Available in a very nice 3.4 ounce pump bottle this product retails fr approximately $20 and is available form the DermOrganic website and some salons.
While the original Youth Code Serum Intense Serum Concentrate is my favorite product in this line, it is interesting to give some of their other products a try to see if they too are as good.

The Youth Code Foaming Gel Cleanser has a watery, gel like consistency, perhaps a bit too watery. The scent is very similar to cleansers by L'Oreal owned Lancome, but at a much less expensive price point. This cleanser is sulfate based, unlike the majority of higher end products. L'Oreal has quit using sulfates in many of their hair care products implying that sulfates are harsh, so it's interesting they use it in this cleanser. The cleanser has a soft lather, great scent, and seems to clean well, but leaves a bit of a film after rinsing.

L'Oreal Youth Code Products are available at a variety of stores and online and retail for $25.00 or less. Target and Walmart retail them for $20.00 or less. A bottle of Youth Code Foaming Gel Cleanser retails for under $8.00 at most stores.
Skin Care Junky
- Skin Care Junky -http://www.blogger.com/profile/00173034113215906428noreply@blogger.com0
