Skin care companies have a lot of room when it comes to making claims about what their products contain and what those ingredients can do. Some of it is true, some of it sort of true, and some of it is not.
Many products will be advertised as being oil-free; however, many non-mineral sunblocks are oil based. The reason for this? Perhaps they mean no mineral oil is added to their product, and sunscreens are usually a small percentage of the overall formula.
All natural products continue to have a lot of consumer interest as people try to find better alternatives to the products they currently use. Keep in mind that although a product says it is natural more than likely it also contains synthetic chemicals. Water is all natural, but then so is alcohol, mineral oil, petrolatum, and many other ingredients consumers tend to shy away from.
Gentle or suitable for sensitive skin types are other popular sayings on a variety of products, this depends on the individual consumer and their skin care sensitivities, just because a product is marketed as gentle doesn't mean it won't cause irritation or breakouts for people with sensitive skin.
No animal testing usually refers to the fact the company doesn't test the finished product on animals. However, it also doesn't mean the the company that manufactures the ingredients used didn't test them on animals.
There are so many things posted online about this ingredient or that and it can be difficult to know what to believe. Using what works for the individual, doing research online to see what others have said about a product, and understanding that not every product is ideal for every person is a good place to start when it comes to hearing the latest advertising buzz.

Burt's Bees Sensitive Daily Moisturizing Cream
Burt's Bees recently introduced new products designed for those with sensitive skin types. Burt's Bees Sensitive Daily Moisturizing Cream is one of those products.Packaged in an air tight pump bottle, this slightly thick, rich, white, unscented cream, is quickly absorbed and leaves my face feeling dewy, soft, and moisturized without being oily or shiny. Although this product contains zinc oxide, there is no SPF listed so those wanting sun protection may want to use this under a sunscreen.
This product is full of nourishing, natural ingredients, and is said to be 99% natural. It feels great on my face without feeling heavy. although it is not scented, there is a slight scent from the ingredients it contains, it smells natural and pleasant. Although not previously a Burt's Bees fan, this product is excellent.
The 1.8 ounce pump bottle retails for $15. and is available at a variety of stores and the Burt's Bee website.

Redken Extreme Anti Snap
L'Oreal owned Redken 5th Avenue New York's Extreme Anti Snap is a protective leave-in hair serum. It is designed to reduce breakage and protect hair from heat and friction. This highly scented product has a texture like a facial serum. It is applied to towel dried hair, especially on the ends, to help seal and protect the hair.This product seems to do a good job of calming frizz but can be heavy if too much is applied. The scent is quite strong but pleasant. It does seem to add shine to my hair but I noticed some breakouts where my hair touches my face.
Redken 5th Avenue New York is available at some stores, beauty supply stores, and finer salons. An 8.5 ounce bottle retails for around $15.00.
